Job description

Job Purpose

The Director, Investment Accounting directs accounting operations, portfolio reporting, and regulatory compliance strategies. Oversees the accounting, financial reporting, and operational administration of the Company's multi-billion dollar investment portfolio, serving as a subject matter expert on both US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles, while directing staff to meet department objectives.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Directs the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for our investment asset classes, while maintaining accounting policies and practices.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with both external and internal business partners.
  • Directs the compilation of financial statement disclosures for US GAAP and Statutory reporting.
  • Reviews investment transactions to ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Collaborates with other departments to analyze and recommend solutions for complex accounting, forecasting, and reporting challenges.
  • Identifies, researches, and recommends process improvements.
  • Directs staff and is responsible for personnel actions including hiring, performance and salary reviews, disciplinary action, and termination.
Other Duties
  • Directs planning and execution of various special projects as required.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of all required management reporting.
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and Statutory accounting principles and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of investment strategy and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid PC Skills including Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel, as well as experience with investment accounting software.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to direct staff.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Master's Degree (MBA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • 8+ years of related experience required.
