Job summary

The Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education seeks a Director, Office of Instruction, Assessment and Curriculum to lead statewide assessment systems and curriculum initiatives from PreK through 12. You will design assessments, publish results, and direct professional development programs.

Applicants should have a master’s degree in education and substantial district-level leadership experience in assessment and curriculum policy.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or higher in Education preferred.
• Five years of management or district-level experience in assessment, instruction, and curriculum policy development or equivalent.
• Ability to interpret policies, laws, and standards and apply them to programs.

Responsibilities

• Designs and oversees state assessments in reading, writing, and math for grades 3–8 and 11, plus certain science grades.
• Publishes annual assessment results and supports standards-based curriculum and instruction statewide.
• Leads grant management, budget prep, and policy development related to instruction and assessment.
• Coordinates professional development and supports districts in curriculum implementation and data-informed improvement.
