Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Health seeks an experienced leader to serve as Director of the Bureau of Infectious Diseases. You will oversee 21 programs and 400+ staff, drive statewide policy, coordinate emergency response, and advise senior leaders on disease trends and priorities.

Location is Orleans Parish within the Office of Public Health. This permanent role offers strategic impact in statewide public health and fiscal oversight of a $150M+ budget.

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, admin services.
• Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus five years in health/public health program work; or similar.
• Bachelor’s degree plus five years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree/JD with four years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage 21 infectious disease programs with 400+ staff, including supervision of key program managers.
• Develop statewide policies, long-range plans, and protocols compliant with medical standards and regs.
• Coordinate with internal bureaus, state agencies, and partners to maximize program reach.
• Oversee emergency response activities for pandemics, directing preparedness and crisis management.
• Provide expert advice to senior leadership on disease trends and program effectiveness.
• Manage a budget of more than $150 million across programs with fiscal accountability.
