Job summary

AstraZeneca seeks a Director, Immunology Scientific Innovation to lead a Cambridge, MA team within the cell therapy discovery group. You will shape strategies in immunological disease biology and translate biology into novel immune-modulating therapies for immune-mediated diseases.

The role requires a Boston-area presence with at least three onsite days weekly and may involve relocation for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

Advanced degree: PhD or equivalent advanced degree in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology or a related scientific discipline.
Immunological disease biology: 5+ years R&D in immune-mediated diseases.
Immune-cell biology: 3+ years in B-cell and/or T-cell biology.
Inflammatory bowel disease/intestinal immunology experience is highly desirable.
Industry experience: 5+ years in pharma/biotech.
Translational and drug-discovery experience; leadership in discovery-to-development contexts.
Strong communication, collaboration and matrix-leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

Provide scientific leadership and define strategies in immunological disease biology.
Shape discovery strategies for immune-mediated diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease.
Translate biology into mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities for drug discovery.
Lead programs from discovery toward early clinical development with sound scientific judgment.
Recruit, mentor and develop a high-performing scientific team.
Build external partnerships with colleagues, academics and collaborators.
Ensure compliance with scientific, regulatory and AstraZeneca standards.
