Hyperion is BlackRock's strategic platform for artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled processing of unstructured data, with a particular focus on Private Markets. The platform enables internal customers, and ultimately external customers, to build scalable data-processing workflows across documents, news articles, websites, and other unstructured sources. You will join BlackRock's Private Markets Data Engineering organisation and lead the development of the Hyperion platform, working closely with engineering and business leaders across Aladdin and other areas of BlackRock. The team is focused on turning complex, unstructured information into scalable data capabilities that support Private Markets workflows. Your role and impact You will provide senior technical and people leadership for Hyperion, shaping a scalable, production-grade platform capable of processing millions of documents, news articles, and websites. You will set architectural direction, make strategic engineering trade-offs, and establish the practices required to operate a business-critical platform with reliability and trust. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management and cross-functional influence. You will partner with Aladdin leaders and internal platform teams to establish strategic priorities, support early adopters, and evolve Hyperion towards an intuitive, self-service platform for developers and non-technical users.
Responsibilities

- Lead the end-to-end delivery and sustained production operation of this business-critical platform, with accountability for scalability, reliability, performance, operational resilience, and stakeholder trust.
- Collaborate with Aladdin leaders to define Hyperion's strategic direction and priorities, translating them into a clear and actionable engineering roadmap.
- Lead, coach, and develop engineers while remaining close to the technology, fostering an inclusive culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Build strong partnerships with internal platform teams to co-design architecture, align technical approaches, and deliver shared platform capabilities.
- Design Hyperion to support early adopters while evolving the platform towards intuitive, self-service capabilities for both developers and non-technical users.
- Establish and maintain high standards of engineering excellence across security, software quality, documentation, testing, governance, operational resilience, and sustainable platform development.
10+ years of experience designing, launching, and owning enterprise-scale, production-grade platforms in business-critical environments, with a track record of delivering reliability, performance, accountability, and stakeholder trust. - Strong senior-level technical judgement and analytical problem-solving skills, with experience making architectural and prioritisation trade-offs across scalability, cost, governance, reliability, and long-term sustainability.
- Advanced expertise in distributed systems and workflow orchestration, including the design of scalable data-processing architectures.
- Proficiency in Python for data pipelines, orchestration, and automation, supported by strong software engineering practices including version control, testing, and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
- Advanced expertise in modern platform engineering, including infrastructure-as-code and enterprise-grade container orchestration platforms supporting declarative infrastructure and horizontal scaling, together with related cloud-native technologies.
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing engineers while fostering an inclusive engineering culture centred on ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Exposure to AI-enabled processing of unstructured data and experience in financial markets are desirable.
