Job summary

Thea Energy is seeking a Principal Magnet Cryogenics Engineer to lead end-to-end development of large HTS magnet systems for next-generation fusion reactors, from concept through commissioning. You will own cryogenic design, thermal-hydraulic modelling, and integration with mega-watt cryogenic plants, guiding multi-disciplinary teams on multi-million-dollar hardware deliverables.

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years of direct experience in cryogenic engineering and thermal-hydraulic design for superconducting magnet systems (HTS).
• Proven ownership of large-scale magnet work packages (> $10M) in fusion programs or major facilities (e.g., CERN, FERMILAB).
• Expertise in high-current cabled HTS configurations and forced-flow cooling strategies.
• Experience taking superconducting magnet/cryogenic systems from concept through operation.
• Familiarity with pressure vessel codes and cryogenic safety standards (ASME BPVC VIII, EN 13445).

Responsibilities

• Own lifecycle from concept to decommissioning for large HTS cryogenic systems.
• Design and validate cryogenic architectures for gHe and sLN2 cooling.
• Perform dynamic thermal-hydraulic analysis and margin calculations under operational conditions.
• Own quench strategy, safety analyses, and relief sizing.
• Oversee mega-watt cryogenic plants, distribution boxes, and integration with magnet systems.
• Plan and execute test campaigns, cool-downs, and commissioning.
