We are seeking a HEAD OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RELATIONS to join our PUBLIC POLICY AND GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS (PPGA) team in Washington, DC - Hybrid. The role involves developing, prioritizing, and advancing BNY's federal government affairs priorities.


The ideal candidate is a strategic, collaborative, and creative leader with a proven record of executing priorities, building coalitions, and adapting to dynamic environments. You will work with the Head of US Government Relations and the PPGA team to develop and execute public policy strategies, elevate BNY's profile in Washington, and serve as a trusted advisor across the bank. This role reports to the Head of US Government Relations and is based in Washington, DC with a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office).


In this role, you'll:


  • Lead the development and advancement of BNY's federal public policy priorities, engaging with policymakers.
  • Collaborate with the PPGA team to understand the regulatory environment affecting our business and share insights to align strategies.
  • Build and leverage relationships with policymakers, trade associations, and allies to promote key priorities.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to address public policy issues and serve as a trusted partner.
  • Prepare briefing and advocacy materials tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Represent BNY Political Action Committee in engagements and support political engagement strategies.

Qualifications for success:


  • 12+ years in public policy, advocacy, or government relations, with experience engaging policymakers and stakeholders, ideally with a background in financial services and both public and private sectors.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of distilling complex policies for diverse audiences.
  • Experience leading policy initiatives across multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and independently execute tasks.
  • Creativity, curiosity, and adaptability to changing needs.
  • Strong political acumen and understanding of public policy and political dynamics.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and multitasking ability.
