Job summary

Prudential Financial in Newark, NJ seeks a Director, Group Underwriting to lead a regional team responsible for underwriting and risk management across Premier and National Accounts.

You will oversee a portfolio of complex group insurance business, drive profitable growth, retention, and risk management outcomes, and partner with Distribution, Actuarial, Claims, Product, and other stakeholders to optimize underwriting performance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Group Insurance underwriting experience.
• Proven leadership experience developing underwriting professionals.
• Experience managing complex portfolios with profitability, growth and retention.
• Strong underwriting principles, pricing and risk management knowledge.
• Excellent analytical, financial and problem-solving capabilities.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship skills.
• Ability to influence across multiple stakeholder groups and levels of leadership.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of underwriting professionals.
• Drive talent management strategies including recruitment, succession planning and development.
• Own underwriting results for an assigned portfolio and monitor profitability and risk.
• Collaborate with Distribution, Actuarial, Claims, Product, Finance and others to deliver underwriting solutions.
• Shape underwriting and pricing strategies to support long-term growth.
• Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer outcomes.
