Job summary

American Forests, a national nonprofit, seeks a Director of Grants & Contracts to lead end-to-end management of federal and non-federal awards. You will supervise staff, align with 2 CFR 200 and FAR, and optimize systems and workflows.

The role integrates with Finance & Operations to ensure accurate reporting, budgeting, and audit readiness. The position requires strategic leadership, strong communication, and a track record in grants management.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in federal grants and/or contracts administration, incl. 3+ years supervising staff.
• Deep knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and FAR.
• Experience with federal award systems (SAM.gov, Grants.gov, ASAP).
• Led grants/contracts system or workflow design, requirements gathering and training.
• Strong problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and detail orientation.
• Experience with AI tools for compliance or interest in building that capability.
• Certifications such as CGMS/CRA/CFCM/CPCM are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and improvement of policies, procedures, and systems for grants and contracts.
• Serve as SME on grants and contracts management.
• Supervise and support a team of grants and contracts professionals.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and 2 CFR 200/FAR.
