Job Profile Summary

Under the general direction of the Vice President, Government Services and Solutions, the Director of Government Business Development actively generates sales development activity to ensure a healthy pipeline and reach assigned sales goals in the government segment, including Federal, State, and Local governments. This role is also responsible for organic growth of existing business through cross-selling, up-selling, and customer development across the enterprise portfolio of products and solutions. The Director must understand and uncover the needs of government customers and effectively communicate how Cencora operates as a market leader.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Identify and pursue new government business opportunities within federal, state, and local governments.
  2. Collaborate with the Vice President to drive competitive pricing and service levels to win, retain, and grow government business.
  3. Develop and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of market, trade class, and customer types to build trust internally and externally.
  4. Lead comprehensive discovery processes at the prospect level to inform and guide new business setup.
  5. Build relationships and collaborate with internal experts to sell new and grow existing business.
  6. Leverage relationships with current and potential customers to position solutions effectively.
  7. Monitor and analyze reports and data to measure sales profitability and adjust strategies accordingly.
  8. Travel as needed for customer meetings, industry conferences, and national events.
Experience and Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accountancy, sales, marketing, computer sciences, or related fields, with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience.

Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Proven success in value-based selling.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical distribution and government contracting.
  • Strong sales management, planning, and strategic selling skills.
  • Leadership ability to manage large, value-driven pursuits.
  • Independence and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems relevant to the role.
