Organization Context

The Visa Institute for Global Policy within the Government Engagement organization shapes the future of payments through proactive engagement with national authorities, multilateral development banks, academic thought leaders, and international institutions.

As a member of the International Organization Engagement vertical in Visa’s Institute for Global Policy, the Director will advance Visa’s international organization strategy and support engagement with the World Bank. The Director will also engage other global institutions, such as the Financial Action Task Force, as needed.

The Director will be accountable for mapping, establishing, and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in these organizations. Additionally, they will be responsible for advancing Visa’s strategy related to Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the G20 Roadmap on Enhancing Cross-Border Payments. The position reports to the Sr Director and Head of International Organization Engagement.

Essential Functions
  • Lead Visa’s international policy engagement with the World Bank, IFC, and FATF.
  • Execute strategic engagement opportunities with regional regulators and policymakers to position Visa to influence the regulatory environment for digital and cross-border payments.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Visa’s payments capabilities, especially cross-border solutions, to leverage for digital inclusion and reducing payment frictions.
  • Advance Visa’s positions on regulatory and policy proposals concerning payments, including cross-border challenges.
  • Promote public policies ensuring a level playing field for private sector payment innovation.
  • Lead engagement strategies for global events like World Bank and IMF meetings.
  • Assist in identifying strategic engagement opportunities to influence key policy issues.
  • Anticipate impacts of innovations on regulatory priorities and advise Visa leaders on associated risks and opportunities.
Daily Expectations
  • Engage with international organizations to showcase how private sector innovation resolves payment issues and promotes financial inclusion.
  • Communicate regulatory and policy developments to executives to protect Visa’s interests.
  • Advise regional teams on IMF and World Bank assessments and their regulatory impacts.
  • Collaborate with policy analysis teams to establish Visa as a trusted thought partner.
  • Work independently and lead cross-functional projects.

This is a hybrid role; in-office days will be confirmed by your manager.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, or 8+ years with an Advanced Degree, or 3+ years with a PhD.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 12+ years with a Bachelor’s Degree, or 8-10 years with an Advanced Degree, or 6+ years with a PhD.
  • Degrees in Law, Economics, Policy, or Political Science preferred.
  • Active network with World Bank, IFC, and policy contacts.
  • Experience with international organizations like the IMF, FSB, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of electronic payments, banking, or fintech.
  • Proven effectiveness in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong financial services/tech interest, strategic advocacy, and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building consensus.
  • Creative and innovative thinking.
  • Ability to work across teams.
  • Excellent English communication; additional languages are a plus.
Additional Details

Work Hours: Varies by department needs.

Travel: 5-10% of the time.

Physical/Mental Requirements: Office setting; sitting, standing, communicating, and operating standard office equipment.
