The Director, Global Medical Publications will support Otsuka in leading and developing a scientific communication strategy for publications and congresses. The role involves working closely with Global Medical Affairs Teams, Clinical Teams, Global Value & Real-World Evidence Teams, and Publications Management Specialists to plan and execute publication activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Strategic Publication Planning Group (SPPG) meetings for assigned compounds to inform the development of scientific communication platforms (SCPs), lexicons, and global publication plans.
- Manage the Scientific Communication Platform and Lexicons for assigned compounds to ensure they are current.
- Develop and execute global publication plans with the publication planning team and Publication Working Groups (PWGs).
- Coordinate with medical affairs and clinical teams to drive global communication strategies and ensure regional/local alignment.
- Build and maintain relationships with external authors, including congress presentation reviews and publication steering committees.
- Update cross-functional teams on publication activities for assigned compounds.
- Facilitate congress presentation development and onsite activities, including slide reviews and publication content enhancement.
- Support engagement with the external medical community through various activities.
- Assist in digital and patient-centric communication efforts, including social media content, digital dissemination platforms, and newsletters.
- Collaborate on content development for educational sites and strategic planning for medical congresses.
- Lead internal communications regarding congress coverage and collaborate with vendors on publication operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years in healthcare/pharmaceutical sector, with 5+ years in Medical Affairs, Scientific Publications, or Medical Communications.
- Master's degree in Science required; PhD or PharmD preferred.
- At least 3 years in a leadership role managing a team.
- Experience in CNS, Nephrology, or Rare Diseases is a plus; familiarity with scientific peer-reviewed publications and industry best practices.
- Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills and experience managing external vendors and budgets.
- Leadership qualities including collaboration, coaching, and influence.
- Knowledge of Datavision and iEnvision modules is preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
Educational Requirements
- Advanced scientific/healthcare degree (PharmD, PhD, MS).
- ISMPP CMPP certification preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $183,335 - $274,160 plus incentives. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) match, paid time off, holidays, and more.
