The Director, Global Medical Publications will support Otsuka in leading and developing an overall scientific communication strategy for publications and congresses. The role involves working closely with the Global Medical Affairs Teams, Clinical Teams, Global Value & Real-World Evidence Teams, and Publications Management Specialists to plan and execute publication activities.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Leading the Strategic Publication Planning Group (SPPG) meetings for assigned compounds to inform the development of scientific communication platforms, lexicons, and global publication plans.
  2. Managing the Scientific Communication Platform and Lexicons for assigned compounds to ensure they are current.
  3. Developing and executing global publication plans with the publication planning team and Publication Working Groups (PWGs).
  4. Driving communication strategies with medical affairs and clinical teams, ensuring regional and local strategy alignment.
  5. Building relationships with external authors and engaging in publication activities, including congress presentation reviews and external publication steering committee meetings.
  6. Providing updates on publication activities to cross-functional teams.
  7. Facilitating congress presentation development with external authors, including slide reviews and publication content enhancement.
  8. Supporting medical, regional, and global medical affairs teams in engaging with the external medical community.
  9. Supporting digital and patient-centric communications, including social media content, digital data dissemination, plain language summaries, and newsletters.
  10. Collaborating on content development for educational sites and strategic planning for global congresses.
  11. Leading internal communications related to congress coverage reporting.
  12. Managing publication vendors, budgets, and operational activities in collaboration with Publications Management Team.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years in healthcare/pharmaceutical sector with 5+ years in Medical Affairs, Scientific Publications, or Medical Communications.
  • Master's degree in Science required; PhD or PharmD preferred.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership role managing a team.
  • Experience in CNS, Nephrology, or Rare Disease is a plus.
  • Proven experience with scientific peer-reviewed publications and global medical communications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with ability to convey complex scientific information clearly.
  • Ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders quickly.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
  • Experience managing external vendors, budgets, and timelines.
  • Leadership qualities including influencing, coaching, and guiding teams.
  • Understanding of Datavision and iEnvision modules is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
Educational Qualifications:
  • Advanced scientific/healthcare degree (PharmD, PhD, MS).
  • ISMPP CMPP designation preferred.

Salary Range:

Minimum $183,335.00 - Maximum $274,160.00, plus incentive opportunity. Actual salary depends on experience, skills, and internal comparisons.
