Job summary

Freedom House seeks a dynamic Director, Events & Special Initiatives to lead the organization's events strategy, fundraising goals, and stakeholder engagement from Washington, DC. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s preferred in fundraising management, marketing, business, nonprofit leadership, or related area.
• Demonstrated experience leading a portfolio of complex events with budgets, vendors, and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to advise executive leadership and drive cross-functional work through influence and accountability.
• 8–12 years in nonprofit development, event management, or external engagement roles.
• Experience integrating fundraising, sponsorships, or partnerships into events.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute an organization-wide events and special initiatives strategy aligned with mission, fundraising, and visibility.
• Own annual portfolio goals, budgets, performance measures, and resource plans; advise senior leadership on results and risks.
• Lead full lifecycle of events from concept to completion, including budgeting, venue selection, and vendor management in DC, nationally and abroad.
• Manage all event delivery aspects: concept development, logistics, budgeting, and on-site execution.
• Ensure events align with priorities, messaging, and fundraising objectives.
• Collaborate with communications, policy, and program teams to align content and speakers with organizational priorities.
