Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking a Director of Events Management to lead a high‑impact events team in a hybrid role based in San Francisco. You will oversee flagship conferences, developer programs, executive gatherings, and policy engagements, translating business priorities into compelling event experiences.

You will mentor a ~10-person team, partner with cross‑functional leaders, and drive sustainable workloads while maintaining brand integrity and exceptional hospitality at scale.

Qualifications

• 14+ years in event management or related field
• Experience leading complex event portfolios and teams
• Strong leadership with coaching and candor
• Systems-oriented operations and process improvement

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team with clear goals and feedback.
• Prioritize projects, allocate capacity, and surface tradeoffs across the portfolio.
• Build efficient operations with documented briefs, plans, and reusable playbooks.
• Manage agency partnerships, including scopes, onboarding, and performance reviews.
• Translate audience needs into hospitality, experiences, and relevant content.
• Define and articulate OpenAI’s event vision and brand standards.
• Align cross-functional partners on goals, audiences, and messaging.
• Ensure clear responsibilities and handoffs across Creative and Technical Production.
• Maintain visibility into budgets, timelines, risks, and dependencies.
