Job summary

Lilly Biotechnology Center in San Diego seeks a Director of AI/ML to lead the development of protein and antibody foundation models. You will oversee end-to-end model development, training strategy, and validation against experimental results, while guiding a team of researchers and engineers.

The role requires a Ph.D. with strong Python and PyTorch skills, and experience taking models from research to production, with cross-disciplinary collaboration across wet lab scientists.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a quantitative field with 3+ years of research experience or an M.S. with 6+ years.
• First-author or equivalent contribution to structure-based generative models and end-to-end project leadership.
• Experience training deep learning models on multi-node infrastructure; proficient in Python and PyTorch.

Responsibilities

• Lead generative AI and protein foundation model development for therapeutics.
• Define training strategies and curricula across architectures and model families.
• Oversee training infrastructure, scaling, reproducibility, and throughput with infrastructure engineers.
• Evaluate model performance against experimental outcomes and guide model deployment.
• Communicate strategy and progress to leadership and collaborators; contribute to publications.
