Central Park Conservancy seeks a Director of Gardens to design, curate, and oversee planting schemes for Conservatory Garden and Shakespeare Garden. The role leads Assistant Curators and Gardeners and coordinates a large volunteer corps to execute seasonal planting plans.

The Director collaborates across departments to maintain high horticultural standards, supervise operations, and manage budgets while ensuring safety and quality in all garden activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Ornamental Horticulture or equivalent.
• 10+ years of supervisory experience.
• 10+ years of park or garden management.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Extensive knowledge of herbaceous, perennial and woody plants.

Responsabilités

• Design planting plans and implement complex seasonal displays for Conservatory Garden and Shakespeare Garden.
• Supervise and train Assistant Curators and Gardeners; manage staff performance and development.
• Oversee volunteer programs and large groups of volunteers supporting planting projects.
• Manage departmental budget, inventories, and administrative tasks.
• Collaborate with other departments and partners to ensure high standards of horticulture and landscape maintenance.
