About Petco

We’re proud to be "where the pets go" to find everything they need to live their best lives for more than 60 years — from their favorite meals and toys, to trusted supplies and expert support from people who get it, because we live it. We believe in the universal truths of pet parenthood — the boundless boops, missing slippers, late night zoomies and everything in between. And we’re here for it. Every tail wag, every vet visit, every step of the way. We are 29,000+ strong and together we nurture the pet-human bond in more than 1,500 Petco stores across the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico, 250+ Vetco Total Care hospitals, hundreds of preventive care clinics and eight distribution centers. In 1999, we founded Petco Love. Together, we support thousands of local animal welfare groups nationwide and have helped find homes for approximately 7 million animals through in-store adoption events.

Position Purpose

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis – Promotional Strategy & Membership is a key role within the Finance team, responsible for driving financial strategy, governance, planning, analysis, and reporting across Petco's promotional activities — including promotional events, membership programs, and clearance strategies. This role partners with senior leadership (SVPs/VPs) across Finance, Merchandising, Merchandise Planning, Membership, Marketing, and eCommerce to provide strategic and analytical leadership on sales, margin, and ROI for promotional and membership investments, identifying risks and opportunities to deliver committed financial goals. The Director helps build and manage the annual budget and monthly forecasting processes for promotional, clearance, event, and membership spend, and provides ad hoc financial analysis to support senior leadership. Working cross-functionally, this role drives financial governance over all promotional activity, evaluates performance, develops actionable insights, and delivers recommendations. The Director also leads and develops a team that supports business partners and drives continuous improvement.

Essential Job Functions
  • Partner with senior leadership across Finance, Merchandising, Merchandise Planning, Membership, Marketing, and eCommerce on strategic and analytical initiatives related to promotions, clearance, events, and membership
  • Complete complex analyses across promotional events, membership activities, and clearance strategies to help senior leadership understand and resolve critical business issues
  • Establish monthly, quarterly, and annual financial targets for promotional spend, ROI, and event performance across retail, services, and eCommerce channels
  • Direct and oversee the monthly forecasting and annual budget process for promotions, clearance, events, membership, and other discounting
  • Drive financial governance over promotional campaigns, clearance events, and membership programs to ensure activity stays within company financial targets
  • Build and maintain close working relationships with senior executives across Finance, Merchandising, Merchandise Planning, Membership, Marketing, and eCommerce
  • Drive continuous improvement in process management, financial governance, and performance reporting for promotional and membership business teams and senior leadership
  • Partner with Finance, Merchandise Planning, and company leadership to define and manage key performance indicators for promotional performance
  • Monitor promotional and membership trends across the pet industry and competitive landscape
  • Support cross-functional teams with projects and needs as they arise
  • Analyze and report on trends across promotional, clearance, event, and membership activity — including sales, margin impact, and cost — across retail and eCommerce
  • Manage and develop a high-performing FP&A team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA preferred
  • Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in financial planning and analysis roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity. Retail experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and present findings and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Experience in strategic planning, scenario analysis, and business case development
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software & systems and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization
Nature Of Supervision

Overall direction is provided on major project work. Minimal supervision is given to determine priorities and set annual business goals.

Supervisory Responsibility

Directly supervise managers and senior level analysts and indirectly manage lower level analysts to include interviewing, hiring, training, assignment delegation and follow through, performance review and disciplinary action including termination when necessary.

Work Environment

The majority of job duties are conducted while seated indoors at a computer terminal, with little or no exposure to hazards. Occasional travel may be required for financial presentations or training.
