Job summary

DuraServ is seeking a Director of Fleet Operations to lead and optimize fleet activities across its national service organization. The role focuses on developing an enterprise fleet strategy, driving safety and cost controls, and leveraging data analytics to deliver measurable outcomes.

You will report to executive leadership and partner with private equity stakeholders. The position requires strategic leadership, hands-on execution, and supervisory responsibility for the fleet operations team.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive fleet operations experience, with leadership of large multi-location fleets (500+ vehicles preferred).
  • Experience developing fleet strategy, vendor negotiations, lifecycle planning, and cost optimization.
  • CAF M or CPFP certification preferred; EV/alternative fuel planning is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the enterprise fleet strategy to support growth and efficiency across locations.
  • Oversee fleet asset management, including acquisition, utilization, maintenance, budgeting, and lifecycle optimization.
  • Lead safety, compliance, and risk management programs to meet regulatory standards.
  • Utilize fleet management systems, telematics, and data analytics to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Establish standardized fleet policies and governance while driving continuous improvement.
  • Manage vendor and service-provider relationships, including negotiations and performance.

Job Summary

The Director of Fleet Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing fleet operations across DuraServ’s multi-branch, national service organization. This role develops and executes a comprehensive enterprise fleet strategy encompassing safety performance, asset utilization, total cost of ownership, regulatory compliance, and vendor management. The Director of Fleet Operations leverages telematics, advanced data analytics, and financial planning to deliver measurable business outcomes, and communicates fleet performance and strategy to executive leadership and private equity partners. This position requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands‑on execution, with direct supervisory responsibility for the fleet operations team.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develop and execute the enterprise fleet strategy to support business growth, operational efficiency, and organizational objectives across all locations.
  • Oversee fleet asset management, including vehicle acquisition, utilization, maintenance, replacement planning, budgeting, and lifecycle optimization.
  • Lead fleet safety, compliance, and risk management programs to ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Utilize fleet management systems, telematics, and data analytics to improve performance, reduce costs, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain standardized fleet policies, processes, and governance practices while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with fleet vendors and service providers, including contract negotiations, performance management, and cost optimization.
  • Provide leadership to fleet team members and serve as a strategic partner to operations, finance, and executive leadership by delivering fleet performance reporting, recommendations, and insights.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fleet operations, asset lifecycle management, fleet maintenance programs, and vendor management within a multi-location service organization.
  • Strong proficiency with fleet management systems, telematics platforms, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to analyze data and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs, evaluate return on investment, and develop strategies that improve fleet performance and reduce total cost of ownership.
  • Knowledge of applicable transportation, safety, and regulatory requirements, including DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and related fleet compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive accountability, manage organizational change, and influence stakeholders across multiple functions and levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and implement solutions that support operational and business objectives.

PLANNED BUSINESS TRAVEL
  • This job requires approximately 10% planned business travel, including visits to branch locations and vendor or strategic partner facilities.
Education And Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associate or bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive fleet operations experience, with demonstrated leadership of large, multi-location fleets (500+ vehicles preferred) in a field service, distribution, or operationally complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with fleet strategy development, vendor negotiations, lifecycle planning, budget ownership, and cost optimization across a national or regional fleet.
  • CAFM (Certified Automotive Fleet Manager) or CPFP (Certified Professional Fleet Professional) certification preferred; experience with fleet leasing models (e.g., Enterprise Fleet Management) and EV/alternative fuel planning is a plus.
