Director, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our client, a high-growth software company, is seeking a seasoned Director to oversee external reporting and technical accounting. This role reports to senior leadership and will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, preparing financial filings, and supporting key corporate initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings experience in public company settings, advanced knowledge of complex accounting issues, and strong communication skills. A Big 4 background and SEC reporting experience are highly valued. U.S.-based remote candidates will be considered, with preference for those in PT or MT time zones.

DIRECTOR, FINANCIAL REPORTING & TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead technical accounting research, documentation, and implementation across revenue recognition, equity, debt, business combinations, investments, goodwill, and consolidations.
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements and SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and manage the company’s internal and external reporting calendars; coordinate timelines and deliverables with accounting, finance, legal, and investor relations teams.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external auditors; prepare supporting documentation and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Draft and maintain technical accounting memos, white papers, and internal policy documentation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of new accounting pronouncements; lead implementation efforts across the business.
  • Own internal controls related to financial reporting and external disclosures; support SOX compliance initiatives.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal finance and accounting teams on technical accounting topics.
  • Support M&A activities, strategic initiatives, and corporate transactions from a technical accounting and disclosure perspective.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and corporate technical accounting roles.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting complex financial statements and technical accounting documentation.
  • Prior experience supporting or leading public company external reporting.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and communicate complex topics clearly and effectively.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and reporting systems (e.g., Oracle, Workiva, XBRL tools).
  • Self-starter with strong ownership mentality and a collaborative approach.
