Job description

DIRECTOR, FINANCIAL PLANNING AND REPORTING, SOM

Location: Harlingen, Texas

Department: School of Medicine / Finance and Administration

Responsibilities
  • Direct, manage, review and report on monthly financials and year‑end projections, including variance analysis.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of the annual SOM budget and develop long‑term budget projections.
  • Oversee daily operations of the assigned finance unit and coordinate financial reporting compliance.
  • Provide financial analysis, interpretation and decision support to the Associate Vice President, Financial Planning, SOM.
  • Advise administrators on budget formulation, analysis, review and compliance with funding regulations.
  • Conduct short‑ and long‑range planning, financial analysis and monitor financial reporting compliance.
  • Develop financial reports on quarterly actuals and annual projected profit and loss statements, and recommend actions to improve the SOM’s financial position.
  • Coordinate and review various academic financial reports, forecasts and salary reports required by external agencies.
  • Assign, train, supervise and evaluate staff and promote organizational policies.
  • Serve as the SOM accounting, finance, budget liaison to university departments and coordinate contracts and proposals.
  • Oversee administrative and personnel matters and review plant project requisitions for approval.
  • Maintain working relationships with internal and external agencies and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of progressive professional experience in complex financial planning and reporting, including supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for executive leadership.
