Position Summary:
The Director of Finance oversees the implementation of strategies to support financial and business objectives in the Research department. This role is the primary financial lead for research activities at Children's Health, advising on research financial administration best practices. The role involves maintaining relationships with principal investigators, physicians, the research community, and other stakeholders to achieve departmental goals. The individual will identify initiatives to improve financial efficiency by reducing expenses and increasing revenue, participate in research administration training, develop team members, and manage ad hoc projects.

Highlighted Responsibilities:

  1. Billing & RBR: Oversee the EPIC Research Billing Review module, ensure billing compliance, revenue capture, and proper invoicing for all research projects, including coordination with UTSW studies and industry-sponsored studies. Manage patient stipends and third-party vendor contracts.
  2. Grant Management: Oversee pre- and post-award financial processes for CCRAC, collaborate with foundation staff, assist with grant budgets, and monitor spending for various grants.
  3. Research Fee Schedule: Create and coordinate the annual Research Fee Schedule, including rates for clinical procedures, laboratory, pharmacy, and personnel, in collaboration with research leadership.
  4. UTSW Relationship Management: Manage Labor Service Order Agreements, coordinate pricing for UTSW studies, and liaise with principal investigators and leadership.
  5. Accounts Receivable Management: Monitor A/R balances, resolve overdue invoices, and coordinate with UTSW departments, providing regular AR reports to leadership.
  6. Quality Control: Develop standards to improve billing accuracy, validate the Research Fee Schedule, and lead invoice quality reviews.

Staff Management: Manage Financial Analysts, assign duties, evaluate performance, and oversee hiring and termination decisions.

Financial Management: Analyze financial performance, monitor variances, oversee budgeting, and support operational and capital planning.

Operational Management: Ensure process alignment with division goals, support budget creation, and monitor regulatory changes in research billing.

This is a full-time, primarily remote position, with occasional travel required.

Work Experience: Minimum 10 years in Finance and Research Operations/Administration.

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: Certified Research Administrator preferred.
