The Director of Federal Affairs will act as a key liaison to the federal government, federal agencies, the DC-based higher education community, and other policy-related entities. The position will be located at NYU's Washington, D.C. campus, with some travel to New York City. Primary responsibilities include advocating on behalf of the University's core policy agenda; monitoring and creating funding, legislative, and outreach opportunities for the University; overseeing the crafting of legislative and advocacy responses; facilitating University interaction with government officials; and providing policy analysis for key University administrators. The role involves close collaboration with the senior Government Affairs and Public Affairs Team, deans, and university leadership to understand and shape priorities, manage strategic outreach, and implement Presidential/Provost approved government and research priorities. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for developing positive relationships with federal officials, responding to inquiries, and ensuring effective responses from the institution to various levels of government.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience:
7+ years of relevant research, analysis, and advocacy experience working in or with government offices or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills. Strong planning, presentation, and organizational skills. Knowledge of basic office software and government operations and funding is required.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Must be well-versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data in NYU systems, and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $155,000.00 to USD $195,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
