Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Madison—Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (EHD) in Madison—seeks a Laboratory Director (C) to oversee the Environmental Health Division, including Environmental Chemistry and Environmental Biology programs, and to manage multiple research initiatives and collaborative projects with DNR, DHS, and national partners.

The role requires strong supervisory experience, budgeting skills, and a track record in QA and laboratory operations, with a focus on quality and safety

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience supervising a high-complexity environmental laboratory.
• 1 year supervising at a management level.
• Experience with budget development and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates programs and policies in the laboratory to identify improvements and efficiencies.
• Analyzes portfolios and accounts, solicits opportunities, promotes unit capabilities, and makes recommendations to leadership.
• Develops and monitors the laboratory budget and reviews expenditures.
• Exercises supervisory authority over at least 2.0 FTE employees.
• Leads, develops, and evaluates teaching, training, and outreach activities.
• Plans staff implementation of protocols and ongoing quality review of laboratory services.
• Leads overall EHD operations, coordination, and state/federal outreach.
