Job summary

Virta Health is seeking a Director of Enterprise Security to build and lead our security operations. This is a hands-on, player-coach role that blends investigations, detections, and tooling with setting standards for the function to protect patient data.

You will shape the SOC, define the operating model, and guide vendor evaluation, AI-assisted capabilities, and HITRUST/SOC 2 assurance. The role is remote-first with Denver and San Francisco hubs and a competitive compensation range.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in security operations, detection and response, or cloud security.
• 3+ years leading or mentoring technical security teams.
• Hands-on incident response across logs, endpoints, identity, cloud, and SaaS, with leadership of incidents from triage to post-incident review.
• Experience writing and maintaining detection rules, ideally in a detection-as-code model, with MITRE ATT&CK knowledge.
• Strong scripting or programming skills (Python, Go) and building internal tools or automation.
• Deep experience owning and tuning security platforms such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, CSPM and SOAR.
• Hands-on cloud security experience, ideally in GCP with containerized workloads.
• Practical experience applying AI to security workflows beyond prompting.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on Engineering & Operational Leadership: Direct, mentor, and grow a high-performing security operations team.
• Build the enterprise security function: shape structure, hiring plan, and long-term roadmap.
• Define our SOC operating model with hybrid/internal options and metrics.
• Own detection engineering and observability with code-managed detections.
• Lead technical incident response from triage to post-incident review.
• Perform hands-on investigations across logs, identity, cloud, SaaS and endpoints.
• Manage automated response capabilities and SOAR-based workflows.
• Lead security platform strategy for visibility across systems.
• Validate defenses with adversary emulation and testing.
• Collaborate with GRC to automate evidence collection and mapping to controls.
