Job summary

Framatome is seeking an Experienced Thermal Hydraulics Codes and Methods Engineer in Richland, WA to design and develop numerical methods and software used to design, simulate, and license Framatome fuel products. The role combines research with practical tooling and collaboration with the Fuel Development Business Unit.

You will perform safety analyses, interact with regulators, and contribute to advancing clean energy through low-carbon nuclear technology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of directly related experience.
  • Strong communication and ability to convey complex technical data.
  • Experience with numeric methods and safety-related product licensing.
  • Experience with engineering software for nuclear simulations.

What You’ve Accomplished
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related Engineering degree
  • At least 5 years of directly related experience
  • Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data (meetings, email, presentations, customer deliverables).
  • Developed networks and maintains good interpersonal relationships.
  • Works collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Advanced problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Displaying leadership characteristics.

  • Advanced level of Microsoft Office and business unit specific software tools (ex. CAD, FEA, CFD, etc.) and computer programming skills.

You may have also acquired the following skills:

  • Experience in research and development of numerical methods, testing, and licensing of safety-related products for nuclear power plants
  • High level programming experience in C, C++, and Python
  • Experience with engineering software used in simulating nuclear power plants. Experience with thermal-hydraulic software such as RELAP5 preferred.

As an Experienced Thermal Hydraulics Codes and Methods Engineer in Richland, WA, you will be part of the proven team in the Fuel Development Business Line in the Fuel Business Unit. This job opening is for the BWR Thermal-Hydraulics Codes and Methods group, which is responsible for designing and developing numerical methods and the software primarily used to design, simulate, and license Framatome fuel products. The team performs research and development of new codes and methods, addresses emergent issues, and responds to requests from internal and external customers. Your work will include:

  • Designing and implementing methodology, models, and fuel products used in nuclear power plants
  • Performing safety analyses in support of core design, safety analysis, and licensing of Framatome fuel
  • Interact with regulatory authorities and customers in the implementation of methodologies and fuel products

Framatome’s Richland, WA facility is a licensed nuclear fuel manufacturing site and complies with US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and US Department of Energy (DOE) regulations. Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $106,000 - $144,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
