Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Facilities Services Manager to lead planning, organizing, and controlling the engineering services operations within the hospital complex. The role focuses on achieving operating efficiency while staying within budget.

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of hospital operations and maintenance management experience, a Bachelor’s degree preferred, and licensure in stationary engineering, electrical, HVAC, or related trades.

• Control costs and ensure expenses meet or exceed budget; forecast needs and take corrective action.
• Budget responsibilities up to $2 million operational and up to $1 million in capital expenditures.
• Establish scope of services and develop annual implementation plans aligned with strategic objectives.
• Project management of capital projects up to $500,000.
• Gather data, produce analyses, and present clear recommendations.
• Ensure safe care to patients, staff and visitors within policy and budget constraints.
• Promote staff development and serve as mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
• Model service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Licensure (formal training) in stationary engineering, electrical, HVAC or other trade/craft preferred.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills

• Three (3) to five (5) years management experience in hospital operations and maintenance environment in hospitals of progressively increasing size up to 300 beds and 500,000 square feet. Knowledge of OSHA, JCAHO, and NFPA regulations and standards.
• Working knowledge of electrical power, HVAC, and medical gas systems.

Principal Accountabilities

• Evaluates operations on an ongoing basis, utilizing the principles of continuous process improvement; develops, implements, checks and retools action plans to address variances and improve efficiency.
• May serve as the Hospital Safety Officer as outlined in the Hospital’s Safety Manual.
• Controls and reduces costs, and ensures that controllable expenses meet or exceed budget. Forecasts operational needs, reviews budget reports and takes corrective action to address negative variances.
• Budget responsibilities up to 2 million operational (expense), and up to $1 million in capital expenditures.
• Establishes scope of services and develops annual implementation plans, which contribute to organizational strategic objectives.
• Project Management of capital projects up to $500,000 range.
• Accepts assignments, researches and compiles data, produces a complete product and presents clear recommendations.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors, adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
