Job summary

The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque seeks a Director of UNM’s internal employee assistance program, CARS, to begin January 2027. The Director will supervise clinical and administrative staff, provide direct services and crisis support, and collaborate with campus partners to promote employee wellbeing.

This exempt staff role reports to the Provost Office and develops budgets, staffing plans, and program initiative efforts, including outreach, trainings, and supervisory consultations.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a recognized behavioral health field and at least 5 years of post-licensure experience in counseling and EAP services.
  • State of New Mexico independent licensure or eligibility for NM licensure as documented by out-of-state licensure.
  • Experience supervising clinical and administrative staff and collaborating with campus partners.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and implements goals, strategies, policies, and procedures; monitors effectiveness and implements improvements.
  • Provide clinical and managerial supervision for CARS staff.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to promote employee wellbeing.
  • Deliver direct services to UNM clients including supervisory consultations and brief counseling.
  • Develop and direct implementation of employee mental health education and outreach programs.
  • Assist departments in improving workplace climate and work-life balance.
  • Coordinate with university officials and external providers as needed in specific cases.
  • Monitor emerging challenges to employee wellbeing and advise leadership on strategies.
  • Plan and oversee CARS budgets and operations.
