The community you’ll be caring for: AdventHealth Tampa

  • AdventHealth Tampa, a faith-based not-for-profit 626-bed tertiary-level acute care hospital located in the uptown district of Tampa, Florida, specializes in advanced cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience and neurology, digestive health, orthopedics, women’s services, pediatrics, oncology, endocrinology, bariatrics, wound healing, sleep medicine and general surgery including minimally invasive and robot-assisted procedures. GME programs on the hospital campus currently include general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine and transitional year.

The role you’ll contribute:

The Director of the Emergency Department ensures 24-hour responsibility and accountability for clinical operations and fiscal management of emergency department operations (adult and pediatric), off-site emergency sites and observation units. Responsibilities include planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the delivery of care for safety, effectiveness, and cost containment as outlined in department policies and procedures. The director must ensure legal, professional, and regulatory compliance, including maintaining systems, equipment, processes, policies, and procedures in accordance with all current standards (federal, state, local, The Joint Commission, CMS, etc.). The director is responsible for ensuring the highest quality nursing services, working collaboratively with senior leadership, physicians, departmental leaders, and community partners (e.g., EMS, law enforcement, disaster preparedness). All duties and projects are performed in line with AHS, hospital, and regulatory practices, policies, and procedures.

  • Responsible for implementing strategic initiatives and managing daily operations of the emergency service line.
  • Collaborates with administrative teams and physicians to coordinate meetings and activities.
  • Works closely with other clinical and nonclinical managers and directors.
  • Implements and manages methods to improve patient flow, turnaround times, and performance metrics.
  • Develops business plans for expanding market share and the emergency service line.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts and community outreach programs to promote emergency services and preventative health.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a trauma-designated emergency department.
  • Current RN license in Florida or eligible for licensure by endorsement from another state.
  • Current BCLS certification from AHA.
  • Completion of NIMS healthcare courses (NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800) within six months of hire.
