Job summary

Department of Environmental Quality in Utah seeks a visionary Director to lead the Division of Drinking Water. You will oversee about 55 professionals, shape state water policy, manage programs and funding, and report to the Department Commissioner.

This role requires executive experience in environmental programs, strategic planning, and stakeholder collaboration. Hybrid work arrangement in Salt Lake City with a focus on safeguarding public health and ensuring safe drinking water statewide.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree or higher.
• Executive experience in environmental programs related to drinking water.
• Ability to think strategically and execute a plan.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders with competing interests.
• Ability to communicate complex information and ideas.
• Ability to build healthy relationships inside and outside of an agency.
• Proven leadership including leading through change and learning from others.
• Experience in budget management.
• Experience working with elected officials and the legislative process.
• Experience with public/private sector policy issues.
• Experience supervising personnel including hiring, workload, delegation, evaluation, and corrective actions.
• Experience improving organizational performance.

Responsibilities

• Exercise discretion and judgment to fulfill the division's mission.
• Develop and administer programs to protect drinking water quality in the state.
• Manage the division's budget and resources.
• Collaborate with elected officials on laws related to drinking water and oversee implementation.
• Direct a staff of approximately 55 professionals.
• Advise and cooperate with other agencies, state, federal, and public water systems.
• Support the Drinking Water Board in developing rules and managing the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
