The Director of Domain Sales Engineering leads and scales a team of Domain Sales Engineers (DSEs) who operate at the intersection of domain consulting, pre‑sales solutioning, and hands‑on technical architecture.
This role owns technical deal leadership, solution quality, and team effectiveness across a portfolio of complex, transformation‑driven client engagements. The Director ensures that opportunities are shaped early, solutions are differentiated and feasible, and transitions from pre‑sales to delivery are seamless.
The Director will manage a team of several DSEs and will serve as the senior technical partner to Account CTOs within Insight Global.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, coach, and scale a team of DSEs across multiple accounts and domains
- Set quality standards for solution design, scoping rigor, and technical storytelling
- Develop team capabilities across domain expertise, architecture depth, and hands‑on engineering
- Provide mentorship on client engagement strategy, executive presence, and complex deal navigation
- Establish reusable accelerators, demos, reference architectures, and best practices
- Partner with leadership on hiring, onboarding, performance management, and workforce planning
- Bring deep expertise into opportunity shaping and solution definition
- Guide teams in mapping client business processes, legacy systems, and constraints into viable architectures
- Identify transformation opportunities aligned to client KPIs, cost reduction, resilience, and growth
- Build trusted‑advisor relationships with client stakeholders from operators to C‑suite
- Influence client roadmaps and modernization strategies beyond the immediate deal
- Partner with Account CTO leadership to drive proactive opportunity creation
- Provide senior technical oversight for complex deals, ensuring differentiated and defensible solutions
- Guide teams through architecture definition, scoping, risk identification, and feasibility validation
- Review and elevate POCs, demos, and pilots to ensure they prove real business and technical value
- Support proposal strategy, pricing inputs, delivery assumptions, and risk mitigation
- Serve as escalation point for complex technical objections or competitive situations
4. Solution Architecture & Engineering Oversight
- Set architectural guardrails ensuring solutions are production‑ready, scalable, and secure
- Review and validate designs across cloud, data, integration, and AI/ML domains
- Ensure technical consistency between pre‑sales solutioning and delivery execution
- Drive clean handoffs to delivery teams with clear context, documentation, and success criteria
- In select strategic engagements, remain engaged through early delivery to stabilize outcomes
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership & Experience
- 15+ years of experience in solution engineering, consulting, or technical leadership roles
- 5+ years leading or managing senior technologists, architects, or pre‑sales teams
- Comfort operating across ambiguity, incomplete requirements, and high‑stakes client situations
Domain & Technical Expertise
Strong depth across cloud, data, APIs, and AI/ML, with domain expertise in one or more of the following industries:
- Telecommunications: OSS/BSS, RAN, IP Networks, Network operations and field services.
- Utilities: Grid operations, Meter‑to‑Cash, Field operations
Solution Architecture & Hands‑on Technology
- Strong hands‑on experience with:
- APIs, microservices, and integration patterns
- Data platforms (ETL, streaming, analytics)
- Applied (not theoretical) understanding of:
- AI/ML and GenAI use cases
- Event‑driven and distributed system architectures
- Security, compliance, and operating in regulated environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 15+ years of combined technical, domain, and consulting experience
- Experience in top‑tier technology consulting firms or forward‑deployed solution roles
- Demonstrated success operationalizing AI use cases (not just POCs)
- Exposure to human‑in‑the‑loop systems and compliance workflows
- Experience with agent lifecycle management and agentic ecosystem governance
- History of building accelerators or repeatable solution frameworks
