Job summary

Salem University in Salem, WV seeks a Director of Digital Learning & Academic Technology to lead the university-wide digital learning environment, LMS (Blackboard), instructional design, and course-development operations.

You will collaborate with the Provost, Associate Provost, Directors, Registrar, Information Technology, faculty, instructional design personnel, and external vendors to ensure scalable, accessible online courses that align with monthly course starts and academic standards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, Higher Education, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in digital learning, LMS administration, instructional design, or related higher education environment.
• Experience administering enterprise LMS and managing course development projects.
• Experience with LTI integrations, publisher platforms, digital textbooks, or similar technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to lead instructional design resources and collaborate with faculty and IT.

Responsibilities

• Provide University-wide leadership and operational oversight for the LMS (Blackboard) and digital-learning technologies.
• Establish LMS governance, standards, and continuity practices.
• Oversee end-to-end course development and production aligned with monthly course starts.
• Lead and supervise instructional design personnel and coordinate with academic leadership and IT.
• Develop course-quality standards, templates, and lifecycle processes.
• Collaborate with Registrar, academic leadership, and external vendors on technology integrations.
• Monitor performance, risks, and reporting for digital-learning operations.
