The purpose of our Global Design team is to transform Colgate-Palmolive into a design-integrated company. We do this by growing Design capability, awareness and influence throughout our company organization – delivering brand experience excellence, fueling innovation and inspiring culture change. Our global portfolio of brands and products are found in 75% of homes around the world, thus, the impact we can make is unlimited!.

Historically a team responsible for designing packaging, we now create the look and feel of our brands (visual, verbal identity, sonic design) across the brand experience spectrum. We are also growing new design capabilities like Physical and Digital Product Design, Motion Design and Digital Content Design. Would you like to play a role in this exciting evolution?


As our Director of Design Operations, you will lead our global Design Operations team, and establish our Design Operations function as a strategic pillar and competitive advantage within Global Design, and Colgate-Palmolive.

This role is critical in developing the processes and identifying the systems that will allow us to grow and scale. The right person will work in the heart of the team, in our New York headquarters and report into the VP of Design.

What will you do in this role?
Build and grow a world class Design Operations team, supporting broad Design capabilities, spanning Brand Design, Packaging, Industrial Design, Digital Design, Design and User Research, Content Design.

Create the conditions in which Designers and Design Managers can be their best – their most impactful and influential selves always delivering maximum positive impact to our users, customers and the business.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead key functions for the Design team such asDesign Work Management (Ways of Working)
  • Financial Operations of Design
  • Capabilities Development of Design


And other accountabilities will include:

  • Deliver the programs and projects defined in our Design Operations platform, within our Global Design 2025 strategy.
  • Manage and champion the operational creative processes; establishing workflow, process standards and best practices to drive efficiency and quality in our work product
  • Research, evaluate, recommend and procure the tools we use for design, prototyping and research; partner with Design leadership team, procurement, finance and IT as necessary to gain input, buy-in and support for new technology
  • Stay on top of industry standards and trends in order to provide design process, tool and system recommendations and serve as a change agent for continuous improvement.
  • Agency Pool Management: Our legal relationships with external partners (MSAs ,rights management) partner with Procurement
  • Develop relationships within the Design organization and cross-functionally to understand each team and stakeholders needs; serve as design operations lead on cross-functional process alignment projects
  • Promote a culture of excellence around our design operations and codify usage of tools and practices within the design practice; communicate processes and changes clearly, build necessary buy-in for adoption of tools and new ways of working, codify usage of tools and practices with the design practice; work with regional teams to ensure we have global design operations process.
  • Design the employee on-boarding process to ensure all team members understand our design operations and have everything they need to hit the ground running; create and lead training and communication to introduce new tools or ways of working for existing employees .
  • Design work models with external partners
  • Prioritize team activity across programs, projects, tasks
  • Assess our current tools and instruments for managing project workstreams, pipeline management, communication and collaboration

What are we looking for?
The right person has deep experience leading global Design Programs which enable in-house design teams to perform at their best! You are creating the conditions to scale the effectiveness of Design inside our global organization. You are naturally passionate about design, systems and teams. You have great energy, the ability to work with diverse people and an obsession for improving ways of working, systems and processes.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years professional experience within the creative/design industry
  • Prior experience working in a similar Design Operations role, managing processes and workflows across large, multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven Organizational and Project Management Skills
  • Prior experience as a people leader/manager
  • Experience with leading workflow/project management systems, preferably Workfront


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors or Advanced Degree in Design
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Highly effective collaboration skills and proven ability to gain buy-in at all levels and across cross-functional teams.
  • Prior experience in the continual research of new design tools and the ability to make informed recommendations based on team needs, both existing and future-looking

Salary Range $170,000 - $190,000 USD

Pay is based on several non discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and office location. In addition to your salary, Colgate-Palmolive offers a performance based bonus and competitive benefits package.
