This is a remote role, however, you must be located within 50 miles of the New York office/hub to be considered. Please note, that we do not currently offer relocation support of any kind at this time.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Creative Director is an integral part of the DEPT team. You collaborate with a creative team to ensure that large-scale digital products are developed and meet and even exceed the client's needs. You lead a creative team to turn a vision into real-world execution. This means proactively challenging the DEPT team to not just solve our client's problems but to provide solutions that are bigger and better than anyone thought they could be. This includes promoting an environment that brings everyone's perspective to the table and that grows and nurtures a world-class design team. You are leadership-focused, detail-oriented, excellent at collaborating and multitasking, and eager to guide a team to make things come to life.

This special someone will regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment and will be involved in the digital experience, e-commerce, and content for lifestyle and technology categories to create experiences that deeply connect with people. You love positioning brands to matter in culture and you possess strong intuition and strategic thinking skills. You also have a strong desire to ensure that clients are extremely satisfied with our services and products. In addition, you possess strong business acumen, problem-solving skills, and a proven track record of success. You will be dealing with multiple personality types, and need to be able to adapt based on the person you are working and communicating with.

In your role, you will report to the VP of Creative, who will drive the strategy and direction for the creative and design team. You will support the strategic goals of the company by focusing on the success of these activities and assisting with meeting the short and long-term objectives of the organization.

  • Lead a project team of 3 to 6 people across multiple projects.
  • Set high standards for the company's efforts.
  • Collaborate with the team to drive several large-scale digital projects to completion including websites, branding, content, and more.
  • Inspire the client as well as the team to define and align on a collective vision.
  • Use business acumen and strategy to facilitate creative execution and drive results
  • Establish a cohesive direction, craft guidelines, build presentation materials, and even assist with production and delivery when required.
  • Ensure that presentation materials articulate the strategy and vision for the projects and deliverables.
  • Provide leadership to the team to include putting the client and the team before yourself.
  • Generate questions and insights for collaborative project kick-off workshops.
  • Responsible for bringing a point-of-view with fresh perspectives to the team.
  • Identify opportunities to connect the team to culture in an effort to deepen our thinking and output.
  • Work with minimal processes in place, solving problems by being optimistic and using proactive thought processes and skills.
  • Collaborate to ensure that the company’s services and products always exceed the client’s expectations and work to foresee any issues and develop solutions.
  • Assist with ensuring that projects come in within deadlines and specified budgets.
  • Identify the decision makers within the client's organization and use excellent interpersonal skills to grow and maintain these relationships.
  • Work across all departments of DEPT, the client, and other stakeholders to achieve the desired results and meet the objectives of the company.
  • Support and grow in the role by actively seeking out and proposing ideas to better improve company operations.
  • Take on other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • 10+ years experience in an agency or startup environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership, strategic vision, and creative inspiration to foster a cohesive and motivated team from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong knowledge of visual design, user-centered experience design, interaction design, brand development, and the creative process.
  • A love for typography, interaction, traditional graphic design, and technology.
  • Strong skills in modern design and prototyping tools.
  • A solid point-of-view and a collaborative nature.
  • A diverse sense of taste with the knowledge necessary to apply this to various challenges.
  • Ability to be self-motivated to learn and stay current with emerging technologies as well as the ability to teach others.
  • A long history of building strong relationships with colleagues, vendors/contractors, and business partners.
  • An open and curious mind in all areas of creative and design work and the ability to remain positive even in the most challenging of situations.
  • Possesses strategic thinking and high-level problem-solving abilities to assess and address current and future company needs.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate information, whether technical or non-technical, to clients and employees clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a very high level of attention to detail including tracking, recording, documenting, and saving all information, processes, and procedures and searches for and proposes process efficiencies.
  • High level of ability to set goals and priorities in a constantly changing environment and to work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to develop plans, build presentations, and comfortably present them professionally and effectively to those outside and within the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude even in the most challenging of situations.
  • Dedicates time to understand the requested task, or feedback and decisions being made. Isn’t afraid to ask questions to ensure clarity for informed decision-making.
  • Comfort navigating a complex organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Communicates effectively one-on-one and in large groups.
  • Ability to travel regularly for domestic and international to maintain new business initiatives and build client relationships.
