Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Director of Career Development to lead design and delivery of career programs for design students and alumni. You will collaborate with faculty, Jacobs Institute, and external partners to translate academic experiences into meaningful career opportunities.

You will coach and advise, extend services to undergraduate programs, and organize events while managing data and program assessments to drive impact.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in related area.
  • Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, and job search techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, counseling, and communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work evenings and, occasionally, weekends; willingness to collaborate across colleges and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a suite of career development services and programs for students and alumni.
  • Research, develop, and execute new career development programs and outreach services for MDes students and alumni.
  • Manage program improvement processes; evaluate effectiveness and update offerings with faculty and staff.
  • Extend programs to undergraduates, including certificates and scholarship initiatives.
  • Develop customized services and engagement strategies using multiple channels including events, newsletters, and social media.
  • Organize career-focused events, panels, and visits; coordinate with internal and external partners.
  • Provide recruiter feedback and align student career goals with employer needs.
  • Maintain and improve CRM and information systems supporting career services.
