Job summary

Oura in San Francisco seeks a Director of Core Manufacturing Technology to architect proprietary processes and scale them across product lines, evolving from project-specific methods to a true core technology platform.

You will lead a global team covering SMT, molding, encapsulation, coatings and optics, defining roadmaps, standardizing golden processes, protecting IP, and aligning with Manufacturing leadership to accelerate deployment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in high-volume consumer electronics, wearables, medical devices or semiconductors with hands-on factory experience.
• Leadership across SMT, molding/encapsulation, coatings, optics and automation.
• Master’s or PhD in a related field or equivalent deep practical expertise.
• Strategic and systemic thinker balancing urgent build demands with long-term growth.
• Experience guiding equipment vendors and contract manufacturers to adopt proprietary recipes.
• Global collaboration across multiple time zones with clear communication.
• Bias for standardization and reuse of core technology platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own the 3-year Core Technology roadmap for foundational manufacturing processes (miniaturization, molding, high-density electronics).
• Standardize Golden Processes with other technical leaders as the technical skeleton for NPIs.
• Build, protect, and leverage IP to sustain competitive advantage in form factor and reliability.
• Lead molding, encapsulation and optics excellence for biosignal sensing.
• Drive next-generation SMT strategy including component size roadmaps and robust underfill/overcoating.
• Define global equipment standards and manage key vendor relationships for core recipes.
• Deploy Core Tech experts into programs to support EVT/DVT/PVT phases.
• Ensure CM site readiness with high-volume capability and yield.
• Provide visibility of current activity, future solutions, risks and wins across Manufacturing leadership.
• Act as the technical anchor in portfolio discussions and guide investment in new capabilities.
