Job summary

PayPal is seeking a Director, Head of Core Banking Technology Platforms to lead strategy, architecture, implementation, and operation of platforms for deposits, lending, and payment gateway services.

The role will unify capabilities via composable APIs and event-driven architecture, coordinating with identity, fraud, credit, payments, finance, treasury, compliance, data, and customer-experience platforms to deliver scalable, secure, regulated infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering or technology-platform experience with leadership
• 7+ years leading engineering teams responsible for banking, payments, or other highly regulated platforms
• Experience implementing, modernizing, or operating core banking platforms spanning deposits, lending, or payments
• Deep understanding of deposit accounts, loan systems, transaction posting, interest processing, payment clearing and settlement, reconciliation, and general-ledger integration
• Experience implementing payment gateways or direct bank connectivity to ACH, wire, or instant-payment networks
• Experience building enterprise API platforms and event-driven distributed systems
• Strong understanding of ledger design, double-entry accounting, financial controls, and data lineage
• Experience integrating banking platforms with identity, fraud, credit decisioning, payments, finance, treasury, compliance, data, and servicing systems
• Proven ability to deliver highly available, secure, auditable platforms at significant transaction scale
• Experience managing critical technology vendors and holding them accountable for delivery, reliability, and contractual service levels

Responsibilities

• Directs and controls the delivery of business and technical outcomes that comprise multiple projects and operational activities within a domain through organizational and technical leadership
• Defines engineering health objectives that drive organization health, engineering best practices and operational targets
• Drives product and technical strategy with cross-functional leaders across the enterprise to deliver Domain goals
• Responsible for the delivery of programs, establishing annual organizational goals and ensuring performance and results that impact both their domain and potentially enterprise
• Develops engineering strategy that translates into operational and tactical plans; uses ground-breaking methods to think beyond existing solutions
• Sets the tri-annual roadmap for a domain level organization. Defines the operational strategy for a domain based on a defined budget
• Evaluates key business challenges and can complete complex, ambiguous initiatives having impact across engineering; directs the development of new or innovative solutions. Ability to deal with high levels of technical domain level ambiguity.
