Job Description Summary
The Director, Clinical Operations is responsible for the operational, strategic and financial performance of assigned regions across the continuum of care, including primary care, specialty care, and urgent care. This role provides leadership and oversight for ambulatory clinics and, as applicable, hospital-based services, by sitting on both inpatient and ambulatory OMT/Leadership teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care delivery across outpatient and inpatient settings. In addition, this role serves as a key driver of operational growth, program development, and innovation, leading initiatives that expand clinical services, improve access, and enhance care delivery models. The Director partners with enterprise and local leaders to develop and implement new programs, clinic expansions, and operational improvements aligned with Memorial Health’s strategic priorities.
Job Description
- Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Public Health or related field required. Master's preferred.
- Licensure/Certification/Registry: Valid clinical license in the State Of Illinois preferred Lean Six Sigma or equivalent certification referred.
- Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience. Experience in multi‑site ambulatory operations required. Demonstrated success in program development, growth strategy and project leadership.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

- Provides operational leadership by directing and overseeing day-to-day operations across assigned regions and service lines, ensuring standardized workflows, efficient operations, high-quality care delivery, optimized staffing models, and improved patient access and throughput, while addressing operational challenges and driving continuous improvement.
- Leads strategic planning, growth, and program development by developing and executing regional strategies aligned with system priorities, implementing new clinical programs and specialty services, conducting feasibility analyses and financial modeling, identifying expansion opportunities, and supporting integration of new providers and care models into operations.
- Coordinates clinic and outreach expansion efforts by planning and executing new clinic sites and service expansions, partnering with Facilities, HR, and IS on space and staffing, evaluating community needs and access gaps, and ensuring successful launch and sustainability of new locations.
- Manages financial performance and business operations by overseeing budgets, forecasting, and expenses, analyzing financial reports, implementing performance improvement strategies, managing program and project budgets with clear return on investment, and recommending capital investments aligned with organizational priorities.
- Engages physicians and advanced practice providers by building strong relationships, facilitating communication and alignment with operational and strategic goals, supporting onboarding and practice optimization, and partnering with medical leadership on quality, compliance, and performance initiatives.
- Supports care coordination across the continuum by ensuring seamless integration between ambulatory, urgent care, and hospital services, collaborating with hospital departments to improve patient flow and transitions, and supporting development of care pathways, referral management, and follow‑up processes to enhance patient outcomes and experience.
- Drives innovation, process improvement, and technology adoption by leading implementation of new technologies and digital health solutions, designing efficient workflows, serving as a liaison for innovation initiatives, and identifying and scaling best practices across regions and service lines.
- Leads project and change management efforts by managing complex, cross‐functional projects from concept through execution, coordinating timelines and deliverables, ensuring initiatives are scalable and aligned with strategic priorities, and conducting post‑implementation evaluations to support continuous improvement.
- Ensures quality, compliance, and patient experience by maintaining adherence to regulatory and organizational standards, leading quality improvement initiatives, monitoring key performance indicators, addressing patient concerns, and promoting a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Develops leadership and talent by building high‑performing teams, providing coaching and performance management, supporting succession planning, and fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and collaboration across clinic and operational leaders.
- Strengthens strategic partnerships and collaboration by working closely with system leaders and departments such as Finance, HR, Facilities, IS, and Marketing, facilitating cross‑functional teams, preparing and presenting business cases and updates to leadership and governance groups, and serving as a liaison with external partners and community stakeholders.
- Drives performance and outcomes by establishing and monitoring key performance indicators for operations and growth, evaluating success of programs and initiatives, ensuring accountability for results, and aligning performance with organizational goals and strategic priorities.
- Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education, seminars, workshops and professional affiliations in service‑line relevant clinical services, reimbursement, organizational regulations, licensure, and strategy.
- Engages as a member of both clinic and inpatient OMT/Leadership teams to influence strategy, operations, and care model design, which enables bridging clinic and inpatient care environments for high‑quality, patient‑centered care delivery.
- Travel to different sites, as needed, to oversee the daily operations of each specialty area.
- Perform other related work as required or requested.
