Job summary

WVU Medicine seeks a seasoned Nursing Education executive to lead clinical education programs across the system. You will direct development, evaluation, and implementation of education strategies, ensuring competency and ongoing professional development for nursing staff and leaders.

With a strong background in Nursing Professional Development and a track record in strategic planning, you will guide curricula, competency management, and collaborations with hospital education departments, while

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field.
• Current RN license issued by the state where services will be provided or multi-state RN license via eNLC.
• Five (5) years nursing experience, including at least two (2) years with teaching/learning methodologies.
• Three (3) years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Capable of translating strategy into specific goals, action plans, and deliverables using the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practice model.
• Proficient in Standards of NPD practice, onboarding/orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/evidence-based practice, and quality improvement.
• Regular physical effort including lifting and transporting materials and equipment of at least twenty pounds, stooping, and pushing heavy carts/equipment.
• Travel may be required across all WVU Medicine System entities.
• Preferred: Doctorate Degree in Nursing or related field
• Preferred: Certification in Nursing Professional Development or specialty
• Preferred: Five (5) years of leadership or supervisory experience

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate Nursing and Clinical education, training, and development programs.
• Establish strategic direction for programs and manage associated budgets, policies, and practices.
• Partner with contacts to ensure orientation, competency, and education of nursing areas.
• Provide staff development expertise as learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, scientific inquiry champion, and practice transitions partner.
• Provide expert internal consultation to management and work groups on clinical education.
• Collaborate with leadership to harmonize practice, competence, and development across the WVU System and WVU Hospitals.
• Oversee planning, development, management, and evaluation of clinical education programs and curricula.
• Conduct learning-needs assessments and develop educational plans using multiple modalities.
• Implement standardized hire and annual competency models.
• Facilitate professional development, orientation, onboarding, mentoring, and competency processes.
• Develop nursing leadership development and competency plans.
• Ensure education, competency, and training documentation in the Learning Management System.
• Guide American Heart Association courses and continuing education offerings.
• Consult with hospital education departments, leaders, shared governance councils, departments, healthcare institutions, agencies, and professional colleagues.
• Oversee the Continuing Education Provider Unit offering ANCC nursing continuing education credits.
• Lead strategic and performance improvement planning for Nursing and Clinical Education.
• Facilitate nursing academic experiences.
• Manage fiscal activities and resources supporting clinical education.
• Support innovation, evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement.
• Participate in productivity and cost-improvement initiatives, meetings, task forces, and committees.
• Identify current and future educational needs and develop sustainable strategic plans.
• Serve as a change agent and contribute to nursing, education, and development knowledge
