Aquinas College, located in Grand Rapids, MI invites applications for an immediate position of Visiting, Assistant Professor of Music for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The successful candidate will conduct all three choirs currently offered at Aquinas and teach other courses in the music curriculum based on the candidate's strengths and interests. The candidate is also involved in recruitment, music curriculum, and community engagement.

Responsibilities Include

Directing the College Chorus, Collegiate Singers, and the Treble Chorus

Teaches in other areas within the Music Department based on strengths and interests (conducting, history, sacred music, methods, applied voice, etc.)

Curates and directs the annual Lessons and Carols performance and High School Choral Day.

Advises Music majors/minors.

Participates in departmental activities, including student performances, departmental planning, and accreditation work.

Takes an active role in Recruitment.

Qualifications And Requirements Include

Required: Master's degree

Required: Successful experience directing choirs

Preferred: Earned doctorate degree in choral conducting or ABD.

Preferred: Five years teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level; two years of college teaching experience (graduate teaching assistantships with substantial teaching responsibility acceptable). Experience in sacred music and/or PK-12 music education and vocal jazz preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Must be able to function effectively in a busy environment with interruptions.
  • Constant use of computer and telephone.
  • Some occasional lifting (20-35 pounds)
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
