Scope:
The Department of Performing Arts in the Getty College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio Northern University welcomes applicants for a one-year, visiting assistant professor position with the possibility of extending the appointment for an additional 1 or 2 years by mutual agreement.
The successful candidate will serve as music director for the musicals within the Theatre Arts’ production season and as choral director for Music. Responsibilities include service as an audition, rehearsal, and production accompanist/conductor, and pit contractor for those productions. Teaching assignments include courses in theory and ear training for musical theatre majors, choral music methods and choral conducting courses, and other courses as assigned. Additional responsibilities include advising undergraduate students and service such as providing collaborative piano for musical theatre classes, workshops, master classes, capstone projects, and BFA Musical Theatre program auditions. Required Skills:
The successful candidate will demonstrate both strong interpersonal skills and professional performance ability in a wide variety of musical styles, possess excellent sight-reading skills, and should be committed to advancing the knowledge and practice of choral pedagogy.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Theatre or Music, or a comparable degree plus professional experience. Candidates with a Ph.D., D.F.A., or experience as a musical director, choral director, and collaborative pianist are encouraged to apply. Professional equivalency will be considered.
