Job summary

Novartis seeks a Cardiovascular and Metabolism Therapeutic Area Biomarker Lead (TABL) at Director level to lead the biomarker matrix team, develop fit-for-purpose biomarker strategies, and interface with early-to-late-stage clinical development. The role supports heart failure, ASCVD, obesity, and atrial fibrillation indications across CVM programs.

The hybrid position can be based in Cambridge, MA or Basel, Switzerland, with collaboration across Translational Data Science, clinical project

Qualifications

• MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degree required, plus additional PhD/postdoc or equivalent level research
• Deep understanding of cardiovascular and metabolic disease epidemiology with emphasis on ASCVD
• Scientific excellence with publications; clinical/biological expertise in cardiovascular/metabolic diseases
• 5+ years of independent leadership experience and external leadership/partnership in consortia/health authority initiatives
• Proven success in leading multidisciplinary matrix teams across Pharma/biotech, academic institutions, or commercial functions
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to influence senior leadership
• Fluent in English; other languages are helpful

Responsibilities

• Deliver CVM biomarker strategies and plans across early to late phase
• Lead a matrixed group of SMEs and project representatives to develop biomarker strategies
• Represent Biomarker Development on Disease Area boards to guide cardiovascular/metabolic biomarker biology
• Lead translational data working groups analyzing multi-modal patient data
• Represent BMD line functions in therapeutic area committees for protocol development
• Lead biomarker strategies at the clinical team level as a Biomarker Strategy Lead
• Contribute to cross-functional initiatives in genetics, inflammation, imaging as needed
• Stay current with literature, data science advances, and competitor data
• Collaborate with the global BMD organization across biomarker science domains
