Apellis Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Director of Business Intelligence (BI) for EMPAVELI, to drive market insights and cross-functional actions in the US PNH program. The role partners with commercial and cross-functional teams to generate actionable analytics and guide strategy and execution.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in biotech analytics, experience with claims/EMR datasets, and strong leadership and communication skills to influence executives without direct authority.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in insights/analytics in biotech/biopharma.
  • Experience with claims, EMR, and registry datasets for insights.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Own brand performance analytics and reporting for EMPAVELI in US.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design and execute primary market research.
  • Lead BI initiatives for brand planning and strategy with market outlooks and SWOTs.
  • Develop expertise in therapeutic area, competitive landscape and market dynamics.
  • Collaborate with Forecasting to validate assumptions for the brand forecast.
  • Scope key business questions, design analyses, and generate actionable insights.
  • Manage the annual insights budget for EMPAVELI in PNH.

Opportunity awaits those up to the challenge of developing transformative therapies across a broad range of debilitating diseases.Summary:We are seeking a talented and energetic Director, Business Intelligence (BI) – EMPAVELI who will play a key role in the commercialization of EMPAVELI in PNH. The Director will be accountable for partnering closely with U.S. commercial, and cross-functional teams to generate market-specific insights from sales and performance analytics and primary market research, to create integrated, actionable insights for cross-functional stakeholder groups across the organization. The ideal candidate must have significant experience working in a commercial insights and analytics position within a biotech or biopharma company, focusing on rare diseases (hematology a plus). The Director will report to the Senior Director, Business Intelligence & Commercial Operations – EMPAVELI, and is expected to drive market knowledge and insights that foster cross-functional action, shaping strategy and tactical execution for EMPAVELI in PNH in the US.Roles and Responsibilities:Key ResponsibilitiesOwn brand performance/sales analytics/reporting, including national and subnational analysesPartner with the brand lead and relevant cross-functional stakeholders to design and execute strategic primary market research to track brand performance/address key business questionsBI lead for strategic brand initiatives (e.g., brand planning, tactical planning), providing market outlooks, situation assessments, and SWOT analysesDevelop expert knowledge across the therapeutic area, including but not limited to competitive landscape (marketed and pipeline), market dynamics, customer behavior, and sentimentPartner with Forecasting and maintain a strong understanding of the forecast and provide/validate assumptions that inform the brand forecastProactively scope key business questions, generate hypotheses, independently design studies/analyses, and generate insights for the business with a strong focus on foresightOwn the annual insights budget for EMPAVELI in PNHQualificationsB.S. degree required (business, biology, or medicine-related degree preferred); advanced Degree (MBA, PhD, PharmD) preferred10+ years in an insights and analytics function within a biotech or biopharma organizationMust-Haves:Hands-on strong analytics and modeling skills in Excel; familiarity with BI tools such as Power BIExperience in rare diseaseExpertise with claims, EMR, and registry datasets to generate strategic/actionable insightsExpertise in qualitative and quantitative market research methodologiesExcellent project and vendor management skills; ability to run multiple cross-disciplinary projects simultaneously (e.g., sales analytics, claims analyses, market research) with competing timelinesExcellent cross-functional collaboration and leadership skills; ability to influence across several levels of the organization, including executive leadership, without authorityStrategic and analytical mindset; strong problem-solving/framing abilitiesExcellent communication skills; able to integrate insights from multiple sources, create simplicity from complexity, and articulate compelling solution-driven narratives that foster actionManagerial courage: ability to challenge and persuade different/cross-functional audiences within the organization, including business and executive leadershipSeasoned in commercial assessments, asset evaluation, and prioritizationEmploymentFull-Time RegularDomestic retravel may be required in this role (up to 20%)Work Arrangement:HybridTravel Requirements:Domestic retravel may be required in this role (up to 20%)Education:Bachelor's DegreeBenefits and Perks:Apellis offers a comprehensive benefits package, inclusive flexible time off, summer and winter shutdowns, paid family leave and more!Company Background:Apellis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a global biopharmaceutical company leading the way in complement science to develop life-changing therapies for some of the most challenging diseases patients face.
