Job summary

The State of Connecticut - Department of Labor is recruiting a Labor Department Unit Director for our Business Engagement Unit in Wethersfield, CT. This full-time leadership role oversees program planning, staff supervision, and coordination of unemployment insurance and job services initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in workforce development, program evaluation, and compliance with state and federal laws, with a proven track record in leading teams and managing complex

Qualifications

• Nine (9) years of technical level experience in counseling, employment placement, veterans employment and training support services, public contact work, human service programs, community action programs, job service, unemployment insurance or employment and training functions.
• One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory or consultative capacity.
• College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
• A Master's degree may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs staff and operations of an office or unit.
• Coordinates, plans and manages office or unit activities.
• Formulates program goals and objectives.
• Monitors, evaluates, and reports on programs and implements corrective action plans to address deficiencies and improve operations.
• Interprets and administers pertinent laws.
• Conducts performance evaluations.
• Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff.
• Provides staff training and assistance.
• Prepares or assists in preparation of office or unit budget.
• Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures.
