Job summary

Duke University’s Margolis Institute seeks a Research Director to lead biomedical innovation policy, directing program strategy and external partnerships. The role requires substantial policy research expertise, leadership of teams, and collaboration with government and industry stakeholders.

The position supports funding development and program execution across Duke‑Margolis. Hybrid work with occasional travel; Washington, DC preferred, NC candidates considered.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a field relevant to health policy or public policy; advanced degree preferred.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in policy/research/data analysis or similar.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with demonstrated policy research ability.
• Experience with FDA CDER/CBER regulatory issues is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, management, and direction of the health policy program area focused on medical products.
• Oversee a portfolio of projects, personally or via staff, ensuring quality deliverables.
• Engage external sponsors and collaborators; develop funding opportunities and proposals.
• Represent Duke-Margolis at conferences and with stakeholders; foster relationships.
• Manage budgets, staffing, and programmatic metrics within the Institute’s goals.
