Job summary

Baylor Genetics in Houston, TX is seeking an Associate Director of Bioinformatics Innovation to shape the strategic vision and execution of next-generation bioinformatics technologies enabling breakthrough products in genomics, precision medicine, molecular diagnostics, and AI-driven healthcare.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant field and 8+ years in bioinformatics, computational biology, or genomics.
  • 3+ years in people leadership with direct management responsibilities.
  • Fluency with Python, R, C++, or Java; experience with production-grade pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of genomics, NGS analysis, and statistical genetics.
  • Experience translating research into clinically/commercially viable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the bioinformatics innovation roadmap and ideas.
  • Identify emerging technologies in bioinformatics, AI, and digital health.
  • Evaluate novel computational methods and translate research into products.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to prototype innovative solutions.
  • Support product roadmap planning and technology transfer.
  • Evaluate external technologies, OSS platforms, partnerships, and licensing opportunities.
  • Foster innovation culture and scientific excellence.
