Walmart is seeking a Director of Automation Engineering in Bentonville, AR to lead site engineers across automation initiatives within our grocery distribution centers. This role guides strategy, systems development, lifecycle management, and capital planning for automation and related infrastructure.

The position requires industrial automation expertise, data visualization and financial acumen, and strong executive leadership to drive scalable, cost-effective solutions across the supply chain.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or 7 years of engineering/supply chain experience; 3 years supervisory experience.
• Experience with automation systems, data visualization, and financial analyses for capital projects.
• Strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic roadmapping abilities.

Position Summary...

The Director, Automation Engineering, is responsible for program development and leading Site Engineers in our Automated Grocery Distribution Centers. This leader owns strategy, systems development, process lifecycle management, and capital planning associated with automation systems and related infrastructure. This role requires a combination of engineering expertise, continuous improvement knowledge, data visualization and simulation experience, financial acumen, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate has experience operating at the intersection of industrial equipment, alternative energy, infrastructure ownership, supply chain operations, and large-scale commercial partnerships. The Director partners closely with Reliability, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, Product, Energy, and external suppliers to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and scalable power solutions that support network growth and operational excellence. About the team: Our team improves and scales advanced automation, robotics, simulation, and process solutions that enhance Walmart’s supply chain through engineering excellence and innovation. We leverage data analysis, strategic roadmaps, and process improvement to deliver measurable business impact. Collaborating across functions, we design and implement automation systems that optimize operations and drive value creation. The team emphasizes project management, systems design, and continuous improvement to support long‑term automation goals. Together, we transform complex challenges into efficient, scalable solutions that advance Walmart’s operational capabilities and supply chain performance.

What you’ll do...

• Expertise in process improvement and continuous improvement methodologies to optimize workflows.
• Solid business acumen with experience building strategic roadmaps and conducting financial analyses for automation initiatives.
• Effective communication and influencing skills to collaborate across functions and drive technology adoption.
• Knowledge of mechatronics and programmable logic controllers to support advanced automation solutions.
