Job summary

Carboline, a St. Louis-based coatings manufacturer, is seeking a Technical Director of Application Development to lead our product innovation strategy within the R&D Lab.

The role aligns technical resources with corporate priorities to deliver market-leading solutions and drive business growth. You will oversee development and commercialization of new technologies, guide projects through the Stage Gate process, and collaborate with Marketing, Commercial, and Executive teams to translate

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Chemistry or related science, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years of R&D experience with 5 years in leadership or management.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and drive cross-functional collaboration; pass Jaeger Eye Test.

Responsibilities

• Leads and develops Laboratory Managers and technical teams to foster innovation and continuous improvement.
• Directs product development strategy aligned with objectives and market needs.
• Participates in Stage Gate Process to prioritize corporate projects.
• Oversees project execution and ensures timely delivery of high-impact initiatives.
• Coordinates resolution of product-related issues across business units.
• Partners with the VP, Global R&D to set short- and long-term laboratory goals.
• Supports talent development, including training, leadership development, and succession planning.
• Reviews product development data and approves technical releases.
• Leads staff meetings and communicates priorities and updates.
