Job summary

RouteOne seeks a Director of Application Development to lead one or more IT enterprise development functions. You will oversee planning, staffing, and delivery of agile teams, guiding them to achieve organizational goals and values while promoting servant leadership and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• 12 years’ experience in management of software development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, MIS, or related field.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead an Agile Release Train consisting of multiple Agile Teams, leaders, architects, and Release Train Engineers.
• Own end-to-end delivery outcomes across the Release Train, ensuring predictable, high-quality results.
• Partner with Product Management to align priorities, team capacity, sequencing, and delivery commitments.
• Coaching, development, succession planning, and performance of Agile Team Leaders and other direct reports.
• Maintain system availability in alignment with service level expectations and ensure safety, security, and privacy standards.

Job description

The Director, Application Development is responsible for one or more IT enterprise development functions. The Director, Application Development oversees overall planning and staffing to maximize effectiveness while helping us to achieve RouteOne organizational goals and values. The Director, Application Development is accountable for the people, process, technology, and delivery outcomes of an Agile software development team. This role leads and develops employees, facilitates effective team execution, promotes continuous improvement, and ensures the team delivers high-quality technical and business outcomes. The Director partners closely with Product Owners and stakeholders to align priorities, execution approach, delivery expectations, and organizational goals while fostering a culture of Servant Leadership (Servant leadership is a philosophy where leaders prioritize the growth, well-being, and empowerment of others, sharing power and focusing on serving people rather than exercising authority for personal gain), accountability, and continuous learning.

Job Requirements

• Lead an Agile Release Train (Group of Agile Teams aligned to a shared vision, roadmap, and technology strategy) consisting of multiple Agile Teams, leaders, architects, and Release Train Engineers.
• Own end-to-end delivery outcomes across the Release Train, ensuring teams deliver predictable, high-quality results aligned to organizational priorities.
• Reviews, analyzes, creates, documents, approves, and implements development guidelines, standards, and procedures.
• Serves as the accountable leader for Release Train performance, delivery results, technical outcomes, and organizational effectiveness.
• Partner with Product Management to align priorities, team capacity, sequencing, and delivery commitments.
• Assigned as owner of IT areas and enterprise systems, such as automated testing or Agile development.
• Integrates development best practices and technology standards across the organization.
• Responsible for the coaching, development, succession planning, and performance of Agile Team Leaders and other direct reports.
• Responsible for ensuring system availability in alignment with internal and external service level expectations.
• Maintain safety, security, and privacy standards throughout all areas of responsibility.

Knowledge

• Knowledge about application development, IT operations, finance, and other corporate systems.
• Knowledge of Agile delivery methods, scaled Agile practices, organizational leadership, software delivery management, and enterprise technology platforms.

Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.
• Experience with service-oriented architecture and development, database, or IT.

Abilities

• Ability to manage a high-performing team while participating in hiring, performance evaluations, and coaching.
