Job summary

Breakwater Initiative seeks a Director, Policy & Advocacy to lead the engagement strategy behind the organization's flagship policy agenda on AI and work. This role reports to the Policy Managing Director and focuses on moving Breakwater's ideas into mainstream policymaking at federal and state levels.

The ideal candidate has extensive government, campaign, or advocacy experience, with established networks and the ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments while maintaining

Qualifications

• Ten+ years in government, campaigns or advocacy across policy and outreach.
• Proven ability to move ideas into public debate and policy.
• Strong written and verbal communication for policy audiences, decisionmakers and funders.

Responsibilities

• Set and own engagement strategy with public figures and decisionmakers across parties.
• Serve as primary contact for policymakers and thought leaders on AI's impact on workers.
• Lead outreach to Congress, executive branch, governors’ offices and state legislatures.
• Build a network of champions and validators to support the agenda.
• Design immersive agenda buy-in moments: workshops, boot camps, retreats and scenario-planning sessions.
